Ukraine in flames

Has the US abandoned Ukraine? While the country reels under ever-intensifying assaults from drones, missiles, and ground forces, it would appear so. A grim reality is dawning: President Trump has grown increasingly disengaged—indeed, silent. From now on, Putin’s aggression is a war we must face alone.

The Ukrainian Embassy delivered a stark message to the Defence and Security Forum when Deputy Head of Mission Edward Fesko addressed us last week. ‘As far as the Russians are concerned, they have no fear of retribution, and they can continue unhindered. There is no incentive to stop. Our bark has no bite.’

He went on: ‘Putin has achieved his objective, splitting Europe from the US.  In stark terms, this means greater Russian influence in Europe—and over the war’s outcome. Our concern is that a ceasefire must not lead to a frozen conflict. We cannot accept peace at any price.

This war will define the 21st century. Everyone has a stake. Expect Russia to keep probing European defences, testing our resolve. You do not have the time NOT to prepare.’
